Stamping On The Back Porch (Karen Titus)

Project Description

Stamping On The Back Porch (www.stampingonthebackporch.com) is home to Karen Titus.  She wanted to convey the feeling of “come sit a bit and stamp with me,” plus the idea of creating to share with others.

The Problem

Karen had her blog designed years ago on WordPress.com.  While functional, she wanted a fresh and cohesive look.  It had to be clean yet casual, reflecting the idea of “come sit a bit and stamp with me”.  Finally, Karen wanted to move to a self-hosted WordPress installation so that she controlled her content.

Moving years of pages, posts, comments, and photos from one blogging platform to another is a daunting task for anyone.  Trying to come up with a new design and learn how to use the new platform at the same time just wasn’t what Karen wanted to spend her time doing.

The Solution

Moving from WordPress to WordPress, while not easy, is probably the easiest transition to make.  Karen chose to host with us, so we created a hosting account for her on our Virtual Private Server (VPS).  We then installed WordPress, exported all of her existing posts, comments, and images, and imported them into her new WordPress site.  All the while, Karen was able to keep posting on her original WordPress blog.

We wanted Karen’s site to be lightweight and clean, so we used the Genesis framework and a modified a version of Daily Dish Pro for her theme.  After just a couple of revisions of her header, Karen was ecstatic.  A few matching graphics and text buttons, and she was ready to go live.  We did one more import of her blog to catch any posts since the first import, then flipped the switch.  Of course, as a part of our White-Glove Setups, we were available for training and questions, which gave Karen the tools she needed to jump right in and pick up where she left off.

Our design work for Karen included a new header, a shopping cart CTA/link, and other graphics to match. Take a look at the before and after to get a feel for the difference a good design makes. We can design almost anything you can think of – all at an affordable price.
